Seems like a steal to me for the Twins. They dump Vasquez and Paddack and give up one year of Castro for Arraez and Wicks. Padres get a nice haul for Cease that fills all their gaps and the Cubs give up a ton but get the best player in the trade.

The Twins infield is already crowded and there’s nowhere to play Arraez because he sure as hell isn’t playing 2nd base over Royce freakin Lewis. Also Arraez is making like 16m so this trade is a payroll increase for them by quite a bit so they’d never consider this.

I'm open to criticism of my trades but neither of yours holds weight in this instance. Arraez best position now is 1b, and the Twins have been known to be seeking upgrades there. I'm aware they have a crowded infield, which is why I sent out Castro. And if you do the math, the Twins actually lose salary in this deal. For taking on Arraez (14m) and Wicks (min salary or slightly above), the Twins send out Castro (6.4), Paddack (7.5) and Vasquez (10). So with them sending out 23.9 and taking in 15, I have them sending 4 mil to the Pads, which means they lose 4.9 mil of salary in the trade, which may give them the means to get the RH platoon OF they've been looking for in Grichuk or Hays.

I see where you’re coming from but I don’t think Luis Arraez helps this team very much. He has a really good OBP and can be a really good lead off hitter but the lineup needs a 1B that’s going to slug and Arraez can’t do that. Without a slugging 1B it’s going to be up to Wallner to smack bombs and as good as he’s been, he’s still a bit of a ?

I hear that, I don't love Arraez either, but he's most likely better than what they have. The appeal in this deal for the Twins is swapping out 1 year of Paddack for 5 of Wicks, who's really good if healthy. He was injured last year but really good his rookie year (stats are skewed by one horrible start). TBH what the Twins really need, aside from a sale, is healthy full seasons from Correa, Lewis and Buxton. Big ask, but if they get that....
