The Rays need bullpen pitching. The Rays would acquire the Cardinals closer and the cost isn’t terrible. Jose Siri is an outfielder with potential and they would get a left handed pitcher in Montgomery all for a bullpen pitcher with only two years of arbitration left before he reaches free agency.
I guess Siri is an “outfielder with potential.” Rays would probably say he is “an elite defensive centerfielder and a key component of their starting outfield.” Rays can’t fill one hole on their team by creating a hole at another position. Rays say no to this trade.
