Another offer that doesn’t consider what Cleveland would want or need if they decide to trade Shane Bieber. Burleson is a left-handed hitter with limited attempts versus left-handed pitching. This does nothing to help Cleveland who is woeful against lefties. O’Neil is a short-term asset, always hurt, and was a one-year wonder. He is just not very good. Cleveland is loaded with middle infielders so adding another one does not fill a need.
If the Guardians decide to trade Bieber, they will want and need to correct weaknesses that they have. This package does not do that and this Guardian fan says no.
I’m a Guardians fan, as well. They’ve most often built teams around left-handed hitting. I’m taking the shot that Burleson would be better than Will Brennan, because he almost certainly would be. The Guards almost never make a trade without acquiring a high-OBP middle infielder. Mejia also could move, because all indications are that he won’t stay at short. Hence is a high-upside pitcher and O’Neill is worth taking a shot on to see if a change of scenery helps.
I’m with JMF on this one… This doesn’t address the problems Cleveland has… Plus Cleveland isn’t going to spend 20 BTV on O’Neill… tell me what has he done lately plus look at his team control…
Hence/Graceffo are fine, but Cleveland badly needs a 2/3 hole type of hitter to help JRam, and this deal doesn’t help them at all…
The Cardinals don’t have the ammo that some other teams do to pull off a Bieber deal. I could easily see them acquiring one of Civale/Quantrill though.
