As much as I approve of this deal for the Rangers, I’m uneasy on whether they’d actually do it. Every team struggling financially this past year, but Texas is in a unique position, having just spent $1.1B on Globe Life Field. So, ownership needs to bring in fans to offset that cost, assuming fans are allowed to attend. However, given Texas’ current roster and season outlook, they’ll likely have trouble doing that. Up and coming youngsters like Huff and Dunning aren’t household names or franchise staples that fans will come to see. They also don’t have any high tier prospects to dangle in their fans faces like the Jays did with Vlad Jr. To that end, Gallo is the only valuable player left from a marketing perspective, even after a miserable season.
