Rays really don’t have spots for most of the position players in this trade, and quite frankly, if the Rays are trading Paredes they are going to need Horton in the deal.

No way Horton gets moved. He is already projecting as a #1 SP with an elite spin slider. I don't think the Cubs would want to overpay for a prospect (Paredes) that they already sold on. Glasnow is a possibility as long as the Rays will take arms like Wesneski and/or Killian as a centerpiece.

I'm not sure I follow the logic of the Cubs not wanting a 4+ fWAR player who hit 137 wRC+ last year and has 4 years of control remaining because he once upon a time was in the Cubs system, but ok. We'll take him off the table. As for Glasnow, Kilian is a complete nonstarter. He's at best a 5th starter and more likely a middle reliever. Wesneski might get the conversation started, but I prefer Brown more.

Benjo

Paredes' value is way overinflated, imo. His peripherals are not that great. Very low hard hit ball rate. Defense sucks. Morel is just as good, if not better, with one more year of team control. Caissie, Triantos, and Brown are centerpieces of any deal for Glas, not throw-ins. It will be Brown/Killian and 1 more (Arias/Gray) for Glas, nothing else.

Lol. You must be reading Rays fan pages because you’re arguing a point that was argued all year on Paredes. Personally, I don’t care that his underlying stats suck, so long as the topline are good. That said, I don’t think any Rays fan expected the year he had or expect him to repeat it (though we’d love to see it repeated). We may have to agree to disagree on Morel, because I’m not even close to saying he’s just as good or better than Paredes. He’s a fine prospect but some folks talk about him as if he’s the next Yordan Alvarez. I will need to see that to believe it. He might just be a 1B/DH given his defensive struggles to date, and his bat is well below the Rays’ current options at 1B/DH. Maybe he gets better, maybe not. Triantos is a bad fit with the Rays. Rays have too many players for 2B/3B as is. Caissie might be a good addition but I worry about his hit tool. Plus, he’s a lefty, which the Rays currently have in L.Raley and J.Lowe. That leaves Brown, who you know I’m high on.

Let me try to explain my way of thinking: The Cubs need a MLB ready 3B with average defense and real power that the Cubs need. With Glasnow the Cubs also get that power arm (yes with injury history), but that power that would pair with Steele wonderfully. With this trade the Cubs would send Morel somewhere where he might have a better shot at getting to play everyday, and the Rays get some controllability in the arms. Also with the Cubs taking on the rest of Glasnow's $25 million dollar contract, this trade just made sense.
