Real trade. We don't have Zyhir Hope in the system yet, because he hasn't appeared yet on any prospect lists we follow (we expect that to change when more updates come in). Still, the Dodgers were facing a roster crunch -- they needed to clear room on their 40-man roster, and it looks like the Cubs took advantage of that.

Someone has to have Hope ranked highly... Then again Ferris could be low, but Ferris alone shouldn't have been able to get Busch in my mind!

I don’t think the Dodgers were a believer in Busch and I still think he should be a 1B.

In time, we suspect so, as he's toolsy with upside. Just very young and raw at the moment, so he's very high-risk.

Zyhir Hope is a kid Cubs drafted last yr in the 11 th rd. Out of Virginia high school . He is 2 way player who pitches & plays outfield, a speedy dude with good power, very athletic, didn’t play any minor league ball due to injury .

12:09pm: Almonte is part of a larger, more significant deal. - I took that as he is part of a different deal than this one.

No, it's the same deal.

Lot of teams missed out on this one. Surprised dodgers let one of their position guys go instead of one of their AAA starting pitchers

dodgersdan

The pitchers have more value to the Dodgers at the moment. Busch didn't have a defensive position. Vargas can provide depth at any position that Busch could theoretically play — and much more competently (in addition to Taylor, Rojas). Meanwhile, the Dodgers starting rotation is currently: 1. Glasnow, 2. Yamamoto, 3. Miller, 4. Sheehan, 5. ? — Grove, Stone, Frasso, Knack, and Hurt all have options, so they can bring up whoever is looking the strongest for starts as needed, then stashing them back in AAA.

dodgersdan

(You could still see another deal from the Dodgers that trades away some combination of Grove, Stone, Frasso, Knack, Hurt and a minor league catcher for a starting pitcher.)

winnow

Maybe a 5LSP /swing LR for 1st half if they still plan to keep space for CK. They have Wrobleski in AA too. Wonder what CHC plan for Mervis -- MLB #6 1B /LHB?

honey badger

Did David Forst break into the Dodger's front office or something?

Mr. Dodger

Not a fan of this trade at all. Awful trade. They should've gotten rid of Grove and Vargas.

This looks to be a fair deal. Ferris is way undervalued, imo. He's a six-four lefty who throws in the mid-nineties. Right now, he is mostly a two-pitch pitcher, but he projects to be a MLB 2-3 starter. Still young. Excels against older competition. Cubs took him over Ben Joyce, Conner Prielipp, and Brock Porter, to mention a few notables, in the draft couple years back. He more than replaces Pepiot, in 1-2 years. Dodgers don't have time to wait on Busch, but I like him for Cubs. They need a lefty bat and this guy can rake.

winnow

I think LAD may value him above market too as LSP. Busch's value is devalued for LAD because of defense and surplus power LHBs.

queensburykid

Busch looks like an offensive weapon who needs to find a position to play. How many DH types can a team use? Getting rid of Almonte's salary with the high luxury tax makes this trade more even.

whosurred

Cubs are becoming innovative. Didn't see that coming. Going to be an interesting year in the Central Division.
