Padres would probably need to kick in more to get Eflin, but I don’t feel like going through the Padres system to find a good 2nd and possibly 3rd piece. Snelling is struggling in the upper minors and by July I suspect his trade value will reflect that. Going by xERA, Eflin would slot in around the 2nd spot in the Padres rotation and immediately improve team pitching by pushing everyone but Cease down a spot.

Haha you finally cracked and paid for a subscription too, lol I'm not a big fan of SD's system after the top 5 but they are known for their catching, I'd be really happy if they added Lamar King Jr in the deal, Salas is really overpriced and the Valenzuela and Gonzalez are overvalued IMO.

I always intended to. Been too busy to focus on potential trades lately, but with the season now 1/4 complete, I know I'll find the time now. Yeah, I'd be fine with a far-off catcher. Rays can never have enough of those, seeing that only 1% of Rays catching prospects work out for the Rays.

I don't see Eflin getting moved. Maybe at the deadline if Springs and Baz are pitching well. I think Randy or Yandy are way more likely if they are wanting to shed some salary.

Nah. If the Rays are around .500 at the deadline, Eflin and Civale are gone. Teams overpay for pitching at the Deadline. Position players are harder to move at the Deadline and often return a lot less than they would in the offseason. Rays ain’t trading a significant position player. Maybe Ramirez or Rosario.

As you know, the Rays salaries are higher than ever before. If they are in a playoff race, they won't risk going into the wild card round with very little SP. I don't see them moving Eflin if they are within4 or 5 games of the wildcard.

Springs is now projected back in June, and Baz will be available too (not sure how much Baz will help this year, but still…). If the Rays are within a couple games of the wildcard and want to “go for it” they will still have quality SP. The bigger question is whether they should “go for it”. Personally, i believe they should sell if they are around .500 at the Deadline. A .550-600 win percentage would have me feeling a lot more confident. Lets be honest, the Rays screwed up by not selling a bat or two this offseason. If they compound that mistake by holding on to Eflin (and his 2025 salary of $18MM) and Civale when there are good returns to be had and the Rays don’t look like legit contenders this year, they could be dooming the franchise to long-term purgatory (ie: good enough to contend for the WC but not good enough to win it all). Trade returns and keeping payroll manageable are how the Rays are successful.

that's funny, here I am thinking the Rays need to kick in at least some cash to get another prospect from SD because Preller's not trying to add a lot of payroll right now. Eflin would be 3rd in this lineup behind Cease and Darvish who is blowing everyone away right now. Efiln is mighty expensive compared to another option like Paul Blackburn who's in ARB 2

Padres would say no that trade proposal. They need a lefty starter with multiple years of control.

LOL. Rays don’t have that though.
