23Down vote for the A's. Not interested in a Thomas/Messick swap. And there's a good chance Cleveland can snag Davidson as a DFA in the next few weeks.
What do you think about swapping Langeliers for Naylor this winter?
I'd do it for sure... That way the A's can sign Josh Naylor and get the brothers all on the same team lol. I'll be honest, I like Langeliers way more than i do Naylor... The only thing Naylor does is take more walks otherwise I think he's the lesser catcher in the batters box.
I don't think Josh will make his way to Sacramento.
Probably not, but it would be interesting to see it happened since all three brothers would be there lol
Well, Myles is struggling enough he might not make it either.
But he will have his brothers nearby to help! Lol
According to A's sources, Myles is listening to his brothers instead of his coaches.
Let's say the Guardians wanted Thomas, who would they have to give up?
I've been pondering that since you posted this. Are the Guardians trading Clase in the same cycle? Because if they're willing to take that step back, then I'd ask about building a deal to acquire Cecconi. A prospect for prospect swap would be tough. Maybe Doughty? The A's will chase spin.
Cleveland is in a weird spot... They have a deep bullpen and need more hitting to get a wild card spot, so they almost have to listen to offers on Clase, but they arent going to openly shop him. My guess is they want to add to the current 26 man roster in a sense and not subtract... They would rather trade Messick, Nikhazy etc than Allen and Cecconi, but for the right deal they could be had. Personally with Thomas' SOs I wouldn't move Cecconi for Thomas. Since Cecconi could go into the bullpen as well as start. In a sense they want to trade from the guys in the minors right now over the majors depending on the return.
If Cleveland is trying to thread the needle with a Clase overpay and lean on the rest of the bullpen to contend then I agree, Cecconi wouldn't be available for Thomas and a friend.
Don’t take anything SC posts to heart. No team, including the Guardians is dumb enough to keep Allen over Messick. It will never happen unless the return is better than expected. Allen has no future in Cleveland’s rotation. Just too many guys with more talent and Messick is one of them. Look for Allen to be dealt either at the deadline or in the offseason. You’ll have to vastly overpay to get Cecconi and I wouldn’t do that if I were the A’s. Besides, the return for Cleveland here just doesn’t work.
It's all information. And for a Cleveland team looking for an outfielder... Thomas is clearly the best outfielder mentioned in this deal.
I'm cool with someone like Doughty personally, (the successs rates of HS SPs is dismal anyways). Though I am not sure how Cleveland internally ranks, since I don't think they drafted him to trade him like they did with Clemmey...
And the A's don't normally look at Low-A talent when they deal, but prospect swaps are rare enough that it pays to keep the option open.
From the Guardians system which "prospects" do you like?
With the goal of balancing the Values at 10-ish... Chase Mobley for pure arm talent. I kinda like Caden Favors but I could see the A's balance the risk of Doughty with someone like Michael Kennedy or Josh Hartle. The Comp B pick makes an excellent add!
Hmm... Comp pick is definitely out... You would have to give up Colby by himself to get that from Cleveland... Mobley plus another prospect actually makes sense for Cleveland... They got a kid named Virguez, who is coming off of injury, but he's got a nasty fastball with a decent slider. Sounds like the A's style of pitcher...
Yeah, I doubt either side wants to do the Comp pick. And Virguez is back on the mound. But Thomas just got called up today.
I was trying to target a need for Cleveland... How is Thomas in CF? Cleveland badly needs an average CF defensively that can hit.
Thomas has very limited experience in CF due to Denzel Clarke. Thomas has the speed and arm to play any OF spot... but reads/reaction/instinct in CF is TBD.
Can't be any worse than Lane Thomas lol
