Admittedly, I'm coming from a Braves-centric perspective. Additionally, I believe the Padres should be looking to flip some expiring contracts so that they're better in 2024. I expect they will be in search of quality pitching for next year and as a Braves fan, I worry that Kyle Wright won't be able to help win the 2023 World Series and also that Bryce Elder might have some arm fatigue when October baseball arrives. Collin McHugh hasn't been good. I don't think he's got a shot at making the postseason roster. Lucas Luetge hasn't been good either. He's Arb- Elig-. It's a salary dump. I like Steven Wilson. I think he's a fun player to follow and I'm into his upside. The Braves already seem to have the NL East pennant. They have no reason to hurry in getting Kyle Wright back into games. But if he's not able to get back to the level that he was pitching at last year and Bryce Elder ends up fading like I think Strider did last year, then this is the trade that I would like to see the Braves make. Padres get a guy who's shown he can be a top tier starter. Their season's a lost cause already, right? The Padres have to part with Wilson but like many relievers, that's just the risk you take. Braves have Blake Snell and he can be ready to go for the playoffs. Hader can be ready too. Ready for some redemption, a World Series ring, and a fat contract. McHugh and Luetge, maybe they're Free Agents. Wilson might be too (hope not). Heck, all of these pitchers might be interviewing in 2024!

Agreed. This year is likely a loss for the Pads unless they get on a roll in the next 10 days (9-1?). So view this trade as getting value out of two upcoming FAs, and then swapping Wilson for Wright, plus you get a $6M option on McHugh next year. I'm surprised at the downvotes on the Padres side, and can only assume that it's from people who are thinking that Snell/Hader need to be retained so they can win this year. I'm not optimistic that they'll do enough to get into the playoffs.
