2This trade foregrounds where these teams are. The Brewers are wanting to take advantage of a currently-weakish division by trading away a future RF/closer for an established RF and late-innings whiz. This could be seen as two separate trades - Thomas for Mitchell/Gasser and Harvey for Black/Uribe. Milwaukee get Thomas, someone who is no longer just a lefty-masher (he's hitting .265 against northpaws) and is hitting around .295 with pop in a pitching-rich division. Harvey has been throwing fire in '23, has actually stayed away from the injury list and would enrich any late-innings set-up. Both Thomas and Harvey are arbitration controlled through '25, which won't go unnoticed by the Stearns/Arnold in the Brewers front office. DC get a direct replacement for Thomas in the younger Mitchell, a much-needed, almost MLB-ready starter in Gasser, a potential Victor Robles, speed/glove CF type in Black and a possible set-up/closer in Uribe, to go with Brzykcy/Cronin at the back of the bullpen from '25.
Brewers are probably not going to sell low on Mitchell after an injury, and Black is grossly under valued on this site. Black is currently mashing AA and will be on T100 lists by the end of the year if he keeps it up (More likely a 12-16 value vs 6). Also, he is not a defensive/speed guy haha. He has a ton a SB due to above average speed and great IQ, but not a Robles comp. If Milwaukee goes for a bat, they will likely be looking for an IF bat or a complete rental OF with Frelick on the door step and plenty of options in the OF for next year.
