This site's algorithm isn't capturing Báez's option to opt out in 2023 well enough for me. If he's not good, and he hasn't been so far and wasn't worth the $ last year, then the Tigers have an overpaid shortstop. If he's gonna opt out then that's $100 MMM-ish that he's walking away from. I don't see that happening. With the way he's playing, I don't think he sees that happening either. Why would the Braves want to take on this kind of money and this kind of player? Ozuna's a money pit. Why would the Braves trade for Báez and risk having him opt out after the season? They'd be mostly sending off Ozuna and money to cover his 2023 contract. So nothing for nothing? Expect the risk that Báez doesn't opt out in exchange for a year of Ozuna? This trade proposal's not making any sense to me. The Braves don't need a shortstop right now. They don't need Marcell Ozuna either. They surely don't need to be paying Javy Báez $100 million dollars to suck. This is all I'm gonna comment. This trade's silly.

It assumes he does not opt out, because he's underwater, which is why the salary column above is showing at $120M. That said, his value will go down at our next update. Keep in mind he runs hot and cold, and the current season's sample size is small.
