2Fun with numbers. It "works out" exactly. Now to reality . . . In a world of "it's just money", I think this makes sense for the Braves. Springer takes over LF from Rosario, clearly an upgrade in performance. Addition by subtraction is likely in place regarding Ozuna, with TDA or someone else taking the majority of the DH ABs. Berrios is likely an upgrade over Anderson and definitely deepens the Braves' SP rotation. Barger balances the money, but won't contribute to the ML roster in this scenario. This would be costly financially for the Braves, putting a burden on budget and luxury tax, but "it's just money" mentality makes this an improvement to the on-field output of the Braves. It's not a wise financial decision IMO, it should improve the quality of their 26-man roster. For the Jays . . . why would they do this? I don't see how this helps them really anywhere on the field other than depth and options. No clear upgrade, so I guess it's purely financially motivated?
I don't see this one having any chance of being anything more than a wild dream. I too would like to see Ozuna playing for another team, he's a jerk. I'm "no thanks" on George Springer because he's a cheater. Putting emotions to the side though, I feel like there's just no way that this trade is anything near what either team would want to act on. Why post this trade proposal? I think I'm seeing things very, very differently. That's a lot of money for both Springer and Berrios. Springer's 33 this year, contracted to age 36, and he's owed about $100MM. José Berríos has been great and also "just good". He too is signed for a bunch of money and through 2028. Ozuna's contract has 2 more years, Rosario's not small money this year, but all said, this is a lot of future $ to take on in a trade. I think it'd be highly unlikely that the Braves would manage their payroll obligations like this. Didn't the Blue Jays offer these two contracts because they're in a "win now" window? Springer and Berríos are good. The Blue Jays need them to play up their ability in order to contend for the playoffs. The combined return of players from Atlanta don't offset this. This trade seems to make no sense to me other than it's one of a thousand ways to imagine Ozuna leaving the Braves.
