Bigbat: "Is it the Guardians checking in on Murphy again or the A’s pursuing a trade with Cleveland?" Media exaggerations and baiting of readers? ...unfortunately, a major portion of today's media is about.

BigBat

Nope.

The time to reconsider is running short.

BigBat

Cleveland doesn't reconsider. They have a set price and they stick to it. If anyone has reconsidered here it's Oakland as they got stuck with Murphy at last year's deadline because they wanted too much then. You think his value increased or decreased since then?

Guardians are already checking in on Murphy again according to reports: MLBTRADERUMORS.com, etc. Murphy is a great player for the A's to keep & play in 2023, there is no urgency to move him unless the A's hear an offer they can't say "No" to. If a team wants him to get acquainted with their pitchers early they can make an offer now, mid-season, trading deadline, or even pass. I maybe that close series vs NYY becomes winnable with Murphy's contributions? Personally, I want the A's to extend him another 3-4 years beyond his 3 remaining arb years with the incoming Revenue Sharing.

Is it the Guardians checking in on Murphy again or the A's pursuing a trade with Cleveland? If the A's think they should keep him then they don't even need to worry about an extension yet. Problem for them is that they are pretty much in the beginning of a rebuild and he's going to get expensive in arbitration quickly. Personally, I want the A's to extend him too so I don't have to see a bazillion ridiculous trade posts where Cleveland has to give up one or more of their best SP prospects which is why the deal fell through last season. Now all these A's fans think it's all of a sudden going to be OK with Cleveland to do that. The chances of that happening have lessened due to 1 yr less control for Murphy and Bo Naylor's development.
