2I like the fits for the Cubbies, but I just can't see the Yankees and Tigers side. To me, the Yankees shouldn't lower the value of prospects with contracts because they can afford to pay those contracts. Sure, Donaldson would fit well in Detroit and Hicks could work well in Chicago, but the Yankees are losing value in that deal. They don't have to tank a player's value with a contract. It was a good thought, but I just don't see it working for all 3 sides. Also, are the Tigers giving anyone up in this deal?
With CHC likely still a year away from contention, deal away Happ and his 1 remaining year of team control to get Effross back (returns in '24), a new 3B (Peraza) who can fill in at 2B/SS if Hoerner/Swanson get hurt, a stopgap OF who may be a bounceback candidate (Hicks), and an OF prospect who could arrive in a year or two. They make room by dealing Madrigal & Hernandez who is still a ways from the majors. NYY gets the LHB they need in left, while also dumping Donaldson & Hicks -- trading Peraza, Pereira, & Effross to do so. DET gets a stopgap 3B who might bounceback and be someone they can trade for more prospect capital midseason, a new 2B in Madrigal, and an exciting prospect in Hernandez who could arrive closer to their contention window.
