I'm with you GSon and I don't even have to have White or Hancock in return. The Mariners do this because they've publicly stated that they will be looking to add a couple of high contact hitters and they could use a good 2B which Rocchio absolutely is. I fail to understand how anyone would not be able to "see why either team does this". If they can't see it that's because they don't want to see it. The logic is obvious and the proof is public knowledge.

"High contact hitters." Rocchio ran a K rate of 31.4% last year, which was higher than Hernandez or Suarez. Now yes, I know, he's young and small sample size, but the mariners aren't in a position where they can afford to wait for potential to develop at the major league level. Brennan had a 81 wRC+ over 455 PA's last year. They might both be good at some point, but if the M's are trading a starter, they need established major league hitter(s) in return.
