I don’t see why Chicago would want to swap Cease for Elder, both of their contracts will be over by the time the White Sox are competitive again. You could swap Elder for Waldrep but that may not be enough for Chicago. Especially not with a loaded Dodger’s and Oriole’s system that is also competing for Cease.

Elder for Waldrep swap is ONE year. That's inconsequential in regards to competitive timeline for ChiSox.

This is the only one, from a Braves perspective, that I have seen and liked.

Mr. Dodger

Swap Elder with Smith Shawver.

Ryan V

No, I want my cake and to eat it too.

Mr. Dodger

It's better for both sides.

i think both teams hate this, braves wouldn't give up Grissom and white sox prob want mroe

Braves would totally trade Grissom. That's about his only value to the Braves right now. He's a hit-first MI, but probably not enough hit tool for LF. He's blocked in Atlanta, so is best leveraged as a trade asset right now.

It's not bad, but I think if there's a bidding war, the Dodgers and perhaps the Orioles and Reds will offer better packages. With his combination of low cost, high upside, durability, and 2 years of control, he's arguably the best SP option on the trade market. Because of this, I think it'll take a slight premium over his BTV value to land him.

Mr. Dodger

The Braves will do everything they can to get him. He is from Georgia, after all.

Not sure swapping out Elder for Cease makes the Braves much better, but I think the White Sox would be crazy not to take this deal. Stick Grissom in Tim Anderson’s spot (or Yoan Moncada’s) and put Elder on the block. Maybe they can flip him for more prospects in addition to Murphy with that extra year of control.

Depends on which version of Cease shows up. The one from 2022 was one of the best pitchers in the game; the one from 2023 was valuable because of durability and strikeouts, but just mid otherwise. Few people have his upside, and that's what teams are dreaming on.
