This one is an early Christmas present to my BTV buddies SportsCoach and MP.

Thanks Benjo but I don’t think the Rays would trade Glasnow for an “expensive” reliever in a 1 for 1 trade.

Benjo

The difficulty for the Rays, as I see it, is they want great controllable pitching in return for great non-controllable pitching. If a team is seeking pitching, why would it give up young controllable for old non-controllable. It makes no sense. The only equation that makes sense is young controllable for great non-controllable. Who’s gonna give up a stud arm? The Reds? Braves? Long ago I said Cubs Brown is best you’ll get. Maybe they’ll toss in a sleeper like Arias or Gray. That would be a steal for you guys.

I think your expectations are correct and shared by the RFO. Brown plus another piece should work from the Cubs. From the Braves, I like farther out guys (Murphy, Kuehler and Schwellenbach). From the Reds I like Petty or Phillips plus Schoenwetter.

This is too much to give up for Morel alone. Easy no for Cleveland. Remove Freeman and it would be a better deal. I don't agree with Freeman's valuation here. He's got $10-15M in surplus value everyday.

Benjo

BB I like Freeman, too. He always hit in minors, and I think he could be a Jeff McNeil type. By the same token if Morel had stayed in AAA all year, he would have put up Acuna-Ohtani numbers. He still did a decent job at MLB level, so I disagree with his evaluation. Freeman makes deal bearable for Cubs.
