4The only trade the Padres will accept btw, so if Yankees fans don't like this then sorry. Maybe the Padres throw in another OF or pitching prospect, but the King/Dominguez return is a requirement.
You're likely going to be very dissapointed with the return if you're expecting Dominguez AND King and more. Rentals historically don't get traded for huge prospect packages, especially if they're owed 30m+. Even if they're Juan Soto.
They haven't stated at all that they wanted to cut payroll to 200. That is reporting by guys like Kevin Acee, and it's not well sourced. The same sources said that they Padres weren't going to escalate spending, and very shortly after they signed Bogaerts, Darvish, Cronenworth, and multiple pitchers. Speculation by Robert Murray has them spending 220 this year, not 200.
Where is the money coming from though? They needed to take out a 50m loan last year with a 255m payroll to cover costs. Logic says 200m is around what they can operate at.
