3The only guy coming to Cleveland I like is Herrera, and at 20 value, to get backup ABs, is too steep a price. Herrera, to me, is a MLB starting catcher. Maybe bring in another team that needs catching help to get something better for Cleveland. I’ve read sites talking about O’Neill or Carlson fitting Cleveland’s outfield needs. I don’t get it - neither can hit. I would rather go with a JRod/Valera platoon in right, Brennan in center (and don’t get me started on Laureano; I can’t believe they think he’s worth $5M). I do prefer a better bat for the outfield, but these St. Louis guys aren’t doing it for me. Roby is fine, but a bit pricey. In what world does he have a higher value than Drew Thorpe?! Easy no for me.
I agree with Mrvics Hat about Carlson and especially O'Neil. I agree that neither have hit the past two seasons and they both are often injured.
I wouldn't allow Straw's negative value to drag down the values of Clase and Martinez for less than an extreme overpay? I like Herrera, but Cleveland doesn't need him now. Yes, they can use some C depth, but they don't need to invest so heavily into one that won't have a place in Cleveland at the moment. That value should go towards the OF and SP depth. Any C acquired in trades should be at the A+ or AA level when we get them. Roby isn't worth 13.5 based solely off his injuries and performance. Carlson and O'Neill are nothing short of underperforming hopefuls and I wouldn't give up Clase for that type of return. I would do a Martinez for either O'Neill or Carlson deal though.
