The proposal centers on three years of Randy Arozarena and four years of Isaac Paredes for four years of Logan Gilbert and five years of Matt Brash. In other words, the Rays gain two added years of team control (even without Cade Marlowe). Sometimes folks forget that just 21 months ago coming out of Spring Training, Brash beat out George Kirby for the fifth slot in the Seattle rotation. Brash and Kirby are the same age and come with the same years of team control although Brash, unlike Kirby, has not attained Super Two status. Tampa Bay is the ideal franchise to capitalize on Brash's versatility.
Yeah, but pitchers break and a team can lose 2 years of control overnight with TJS. When the Rays trade top players, they want 3-5 players in return per top player. They might want Brash but Gilbert is a nonstarter for the Rays at his BTV price. He’s just too expensive.
