This deal would give the Guardians three top-100 prospects (giving them seven total, plus Bo Naylor who just graduated), fills a hole in their outfield, and gives them a solid reliver to take Clase's roster spot. Now don't get me wrong, Guardians fans are going to hate it since it would sort of signal punting on 2024, but all of the players they acquire besides Crawford, as well as their top 6 prospects right now, will be on the MLB team by 2025. It's a lousy year to throw in the towel given the state of the rest of the AL Central, but adding to an already forming core of talent between AA and MLB could give them a really nice competitive window in 2025 and beyond for a low price. I also think that even if they make the deal, they can still compete with the Tigers and Twins for a playoff spot in 2024, especially if some of their prospects take off running. This trade would give the Phillies arguably the best pitching staff in baseball, and Dombrowski hates prospects so I could easily see them agreeing to this. The Pirates need to fix their 1B problem and this is probably the best solution possible given the state of free agency and the players rumored to be available. Strahm is like a much cheaper version of Seth Lugo who the Pirates are rumored to be in on, and the Phillies would not really need him if this deal were to get done. Losing Moreta and Jones would hurt, but it's a price I'd be willing to pay for 100ish innings of Strahm and a couple years of Naylor.

Cleveland already has had the youngest team in MLB the last two seasons. Setting back contention farther makes no sense to me. Cleveland's biggest need is adding to their offensive production especially needing power. How does Rojas replacing Naylor do that for the Guardians? Neither Abel or Jones are ready for MLB for the start of 2024. Crawford is projected for 2026 so no offensive help is expected there. Teams have asked on Naylor, but I don't see Cleveland trading him. I see them only trading Clase for that injection of offense that the Guardians need. Cleveland says no.
