Cleveland has no need for another left-handed hitting outfielder that can't hit lefty pitching.

From an outside perspective, Cleveland just needs outfielders who can hit. Brennan isn’t a major leaguer and Valera has barely hit his weight in AAA. Kwan is the only outfielder they have who can be penciled in next season. Moniak would instantly become their best hitting outfielder and can play the strong-side of a platoon w/ Laureano. Then use the $12m saved to sign a RHH left fielder.

Moniak had one decent year after have three absolutely horrible years. He does not provide the help Cleveland needs to hit lefty pitching. Brennan has hit at every level and has had much fewer changes than Moniak has. By the way, Kwan is a two time AL Gold Glove left fielder. Cleveland needs someone for RF.

Brennan has hit at every level, except for MLB. That’s sort of an important caveat. Moniak’s 113 OPS+ would have been 4th on Cleveland last season. Also, he is primarily a right fielder who can play all three OF positions. The only reason I think LA would be open to trading him is because they could replace his production with a free agent outfielder, such as Tesocar Hernandez. Cleveland doesn’t seem willing or able to spend significant money on their outfield.

You are incorrect about things... Moniak didn't hit until this season so you want Cleveland just to get rid of a guy with a very strong MiLB track record after one season? Brennan also didn't take walks which was a bit odd for him, so I think he will improve a bunch in 24, plus we are putting Freeman and Brito into the OF in the spring to see how they do out there. Both are plus contact bats... Then Valera had a broken bone in his wrist so duh his numbers will be bad... But he was strong as the season ended and DeLauter isnt very far away either. If Bieber is being dealt its for something they don't have and thats not Moniak since hes not enough of an upgrade to merit trading for him.

I’m sorry, but we’re just going to have to agree to disagree on this one. The names you’ve mentioned (Brennan, Freeman, + Straw) combined for a whopping 1.3 fWAR in 349 games last season. Moniak had a higher fWAR in *literally* 1/4th of the games played. Brito has played 5 games above AA and has 0 professional experience in the outfield, and Valera is still a major question mark. I understand the handedness argument, but there’s no pretending that Moniak wouldn’t be a significant upgrade over their current MLB options. If they want to run an OF of Freeman, Kwan (great player, btw), and Brennan next season, then that’s certainly… a choice. Carrying 4 soft-contact outfielders, who would be lucky to hit more than 5 HR’s each, is not a recipe for success. Or they could acquire another OF and let Brennan, Freeman, and Valera (who all have MiLB options left) battle for LF time. Worst case, you’re left with an abundance of outfielders, which should not be a problem Cleveland is worried about. Btw, Moniak also dealt with a hand injury at the beginning of 2022, and still managed a .962 OPS in limited MiLB games. So it’s completely unfair to say Moniak “didn’t hit” last season, while simultaneously excusing Valera’s performance.

Hi, I'm an Angels fan, and even I don't think that Mickey Moniak won't have any success going forward. He is around the 5th percentile in chase %, whiff %, K %, and BB %. (info from statcast) Also, Shane Bieber has a 4.83 xERA. (statcast) As much as Moniak won't be finding success, Bieber won't, and since the Angels will increase payroll with this trade this is probably a bad trade for the Angels. (and prob. for the Guards too)
