5Any Braves trade with Waldrep and AJSS, especially for only two years of team control, is likely going to get a thumbs-down from me.
I wouldn't trade AJSS straight up for Valdez. Sawver is a pretty good pitcher now with only a couple of years since becoming a pitcher. What will he do with a little experience?
I wouldn't do that 1 for 1 either unless either Max Fried or Spencer Strider were probably going to be out for the 2024 season. That'd be a move I'd feel would have to be made in order to "save the season". For right now though, I'd like to see the Braves get Lucas Giolito for 1 year a bit below $20 million. $17? The Braves are one of the best teams in the league right now and while adding Framber Valdez would be awesome, it's not worth it in my eyes. I'd like to see how that team's younger starting pitchers perform in 2024 and then again pivot for 2025. With around $25 million in contractual obligations coming off the books there may be some better opportunities to win than there are now. The Braves should have a better idea as to what they truly have in pitcher like AJ Smith-Shawver and Hurston Waldrep. I'm not really leaning into that narrative of a higher upside for Smith-Shawver. He's good, he's ascended quickly, he's fun to cheer for. When Framber Valdez was the same age as AJ Smith-Shawver is now, he signed his first professional contract for $10,000. Grand Master Yoda said, "always in motion is the future" and he was one of the most powerful Jedi. We'll just have to see how these young Braves pitchers come along. Trade proposals and rooting for pitching prospects are two things that I really enjoy.

ATL is in their window to win for the next few years and need a quality pitcher, even more so if Morton or Fried end up on the IL. Waldrep is the biggest loss in this trade and AJ SS isn't consistent enough for the majors yet.
I agree. Framber would be a total game changer for us imo.
