A lot of Rays fans want to trade Paredes to the Mariners at peak value, but I doubt that happens because players are rarely moved at Paredes' valuation. Rays will just have to soldier on with him and his 4-5 fWAR. This trade seems like a pretty good trade for both teams though. Rays are probably not done shedding salary, and Aroz is a probable trade chip with his $9MM salary (and high-end inhouse replacements in L.Raley and J.Lowe). Mead is top 35 overall prospect and looked good in his initial call up last year, but he's a man without a position on the Rays roster. I have no idea where he'll play if he stays, as I was assuming he would get a lot of time at LF but that idea no longer works with the Rays adding DeLuca in the Glasnow trade. So that's two big RHB for the Mariners, with the cost being one of their SP (which they have a surplus of), their top catching prospect (they can just extend Raleigh), a far-off high risk/reward COF prospect, and Caballero. Caballero is intriguing to me as a potential SS for the 2023 season, as he's a better defender than Basabe and a better bat than Walls. In fact, adding Caballero would allow the Rays to part with Walls, who provides excellent defense but can't hit the broadside of a barn with a whiffle ball and bat. In any event, the Rays don't know what will happen with Franco and Walls is going to miss the start of the season recovering from offseason surgery, so Caballero makes a lot of sense for the Rays. Do the Mariners need Caballero if they acquire Mead (who might be best suited for 2B, even though the Rays like him at 3B)? I don't know the answer to that question, but I think Aroz gets traded toward the high end of his trade value range, so if Caballero comes out, then someone else would need to replace him.

Man, this is a hard one. It's super easy for me to trade Paredes. He's super 2, and his offensive profile doesn't match his offensive output. Bottom 20% in xBA, xSLG, exit velos similar to Taylor Walls, rarely hits the ball hard, etc. I can't deny his success, but I can be doubtful of his future success. And consider me extremely doubtful. I really don't have as much interest in Ford as you do, so for that reason, I'm a no on this deal. Caballero bores me too. He's behind Wander, Walls, Caminero and Basabe for reps at SS, and Lowe, Aranda, and Paredes at 2nd. I'd rather not fill up the 40 with our 9th middle infielder unless it's a special one, and Caballero isn't special (good defender, fast, but a very weak bat). Love Woo and Montes. Take Mead, Ford and Caballero out, and I'm in.

I’m ready for the Walls Show to end and, to be perfectly honest, I wasn’t impressed with Basabe. So one or both could go if the Rays land Caballero. His addition is about having a better bat available than Walls at SS if Franco can’t play, and a better defender than Basabe. Unfortunately for everyone who wants to trade Paredes, I just can’t see it happening at a $65MM valuation, so this trade is the compromise.
