8Raley replaces Naylor at league minimum along with Hancock. Harvey allows Guardians to trade Clase for other needs. Mariners get established players with cash offset. Nats get their lefty bat
The M’s aren’t taking on payroll. They’d need more like $15M than $3M to pull the trigger on something like that imo.
This is a garbage deal for Cleveland.
Actually, this deal isn't as bad as it looks... I just don't see Naylor getting moved...
Bieber is making just over 13 million and Naylor nearly 7 million. Hancock and Raley are league minimum. That Frees up funds to sign Soler or Pederson or another big bat. Raley also had an OPS over 800 along with 2 more hr's in 100 less AB's. Mariners get a 1 year stop gap to take pressure off Miller and Woo. Offer qualifying offer next year. Thomas slides into the 3 hole and has 2 years of control. The 3 million drops his and Bieber's wage down to 17 million combined. The Giants trade was cash neutral. Mariners before this trade should have had about 20 million in the bank
Raley is awesome so you should just keep him. Cleveland is actually in a good spot financially and is waiting for the dust to settle with the new TV deal to see how much they can add. Cleveland would want nothing to do with this deal....nothing at all. They don't need Harvey and/or Hancock as they already picked up a better options in Lively and Barria. This deal basically has Cleveland giving up one of their rotation stalwarts and one of their best hitters for nothing much.
You can't compare Lively who is a 31 year old with an era over 5. Who is Barria? Not on the 40 man roster
Raley does not replace Naylor's offense and team leadership. Cleveland has Scott Barlow with closing experience if they decide to trade Clase. Seattle does not need Bieber. Teams have asked about Naylor, but I doubt that Cleveland would trade him. They play in a very winnable division.
