I’m surprised this trade isn’t going better, especially from the Dodger’s fans. I am 100% ok with trading both Bieber and Clase, and the return here is decent (although Carlson does nothing for me). Clase, to me, is the best hope for injecting some much needed talent into the organization. To be able to get an outfielder and shore up the SP depth is crucial. If Bieber stays that’s fine, but I think as good as Clase has been he can be replaced. I’m hoping Texas will eventually come around (or the Dodgers) and feel they MUST have him. I thought maybe the Hader signing would put some pressure on Texas to get this done. Maybe after the Bally’s mess is settled.

To me this looks like a terrible deal for Cleveland... I want nothing to do with Carlson and Rushing isn't going to be a catcher with the fact his defense hasn't progressed...

Carlson is a bit tricky. He could continue to disappoint or he could turn the corner and become a perennial AS. I'm not quite sure how Carlson and Vargas fit into an OF that already consists of Kwan, Brennan, Straw, Laureano, Florial and DDLS. Cleveland also has all of Valera, DeLauter, Rodriguez and Brito coming up at some point soon. I'd deal Bieber for Carlson, but that's about it. A separate deal with the Dodgers for Clase can be constructed.

After two years of Carlson having to battle through injuries (hamstring(s), broken thumb, broken ankle), it's not easy to trust he can cash in the promise Carlson showed coming through the Cardinals system. To recall: Scouting Grades/Report (20-80 grading scale) HIT 55.................... POWER 60............ RUN 55 ARM 55 ......... FIELD 60 ........ OVERALL 60 Make no mistake, this switch hitter (for both average and power) played well enough to push Noooot out of the CF plans of the Cardinals and is now entering into the 2024 spring training season finally/fully healthy. Even with the injuries.. he still SMACKED LHP's better than any OF'er the Guardians have on their current active roster.. Michael Vargas is similar in projection (Vargas' hit tool > Carlson's hit tool.. Carlson has the superior wheels that most players covet) With respect to how Vargas' 300 AB's played out for the Dodgers.. he was injured in spring training and couldn't put it together.. He's not the first "prospect/suspent" to stumble upon getting to the major leagues for the first time.. In Vargas' case.. he didn't have his hands.. and it messed with everything he has done with the lumber.. Like Carlson.. he's coming to the 2024 spring season fully healthy.. The other two guys have yet to fail... they will..
