Cubs have had an uneventful offseason. Would they do something this aggressive? Rays have a surplus of high performing infielders. Would they trade one of their best players the past 2 years to make way for rookies Mead and Caminero? Probably not by either team, but you never know.

I'm shocked I wouldn't expect you to want Shaw, I'm a big fan of his would love to pick him up in trade.

Life comes at you fast. I had assumed C.Williams was headed to 2B with Franco holding down SS for the next decade, but….. Franco is unlikely to ever play for the Rays again and Mead is unlikely to ever be an above average 2B. Shaw can serve as insurance in case Mead (or JC at 3B) doesn’t work out. He has 3 years before he’s Rule V eligible, so the Rays can slow play his promotion to see how everyone else works out.

I'll be watching Shaw. He hasn't been challenged yet. What scares me about his game is how strike one is put into play so frequently. There's just a lack of an eye at this point. Major league pitching is too good to be putting strike one changeups into play.

I've not been on the Shaw train either, but mostly because I don't buy short season breakouts in the low minors.

Interesting. My initial thought is " what's all this bullshit we're trading for?" Lol. There's no headliner. You know my thoughts on Paredes, so I'm not going to pretend like we have this uncut gem. That gem has been cut, shined, appraised, and then sent through that Willy Wonka TV thing that makes things twice as big as they are. But regardless, Paredes deserved MVP votes last year, has 4 years of control, and the headliner prospect in a trade for him should be better than Matt Shaw. Shaw is nice. 70th or so best prospect in my book. I'd like an MLB ready talent back for a guy with 4 years of control.

LOL. You don't like Paredes but you won't trade him without a top 25 prospect in return. You're a complicated fella. But I get your point. I like Paredes. His underlying stats aren't sexy, but he's been a 4 Win player for 2 years straight (if you annualize his 2022 stats). I would have no interest trading him if the Rays didn't have 5 top guys for 1B/2B/3B (Y.Diaz, B.Lowe, Paredes, Mead and JC). Rays generally like to give everyday ABs to their top prospects when they're called up and that's hard to do with 4 Win players blocking every spot. This trade opens 3B and it refills the Farm with really good-not great prospects at 2B, COF and C. Any one of those 3 could develop into a pretty damn good player though. Last but not least is Brown, who I believe the Rays, if they asked for him in trade, would be able to unlock his plus-plus stuff. The dude could be dominant with better control/command. Also, Shaw, Brown and Alcantara are all top 100 prospects according to MLB.com.

Cubs wants nothing to do with Parades @ this price thank you.

LOL. You don't want that 24 year old 5 win 3b that hits 30/100 and has 4 years of team control, and can play all 4 IF positions? Who you holding out for? Aaron and Mays are dead homie.
