The A's take on another $12 million in payroll... which could be reduced if anyone signs Garcia after the A's release him. They also add a quality OF prospect.

$53 million contact is guaranteed money. and $26 million over the next two seasons, if release him . just drop him and waste $13 million still must pay . as his contract written.
From what I've read, Garcia is owed $29 million over the next 2+ seasons. I think he's done and not worth a roster spot, and I'd be fine with the A's eating the money.
