6A's trade for a 1st round pick and a toolsy lotto ticket that has been beset by injury since being drafted in 2021 but finished 2023 healthy.
Why not let the Pirates keep their pick and send Mitch Jebb(2.5) and Hunter Barco(2.3) instead? A's could move Jebb to CF. Edit: along with Lonnie White so all 3 for Blackburn
Because the draft pick is the #1 target. I looked at Jebb but I shy away from taking recent draft picks (everyone loves their Shiny New Toys) and I'm not sure where he plays on defense.
Part of my point is that those comp picks aren't really available. Teams are hording them for the same reason you said.
Then they don't get Blackburn. I'm not desperate get whatever I can for him... if there's not a good deal then he pitches for the A's in 2024.
Agreed. He can be worth this much next offseason if he can just stay healthy.
