3Idea is Thomas isn't as injury prone as Haniger and a lot cheaper. Both have 2 years control. Free up some more for a RP or SP
mariners already saved their money in sending Robbie ray in the haniger trade, also i think haniger was brought in as more of a clubhouse presence and hopefully can rebound and be somewhat healthy while splitting time in the OF with Canzone and occasionally DH'ing to give garver a day off, pretty sure they wouldn't send Ford their 2nd best prospect just to offset haniger's contract for a player of Thomas caliber, if they were to move ford it would have to be for a player that moves the needle a little more than Lane thomas
I agree. I don’t think M’s fans would be happy to use Ford to dump Haniger’s contract, even if it carved out space to sign Bellinger. The Mariners also need Haniger’s right handed bat in any event.
