1Smith has more value to the Dodgers right now than Luzardo would. Neither Cartaya or Rushing are MLB ready yet, and Barnes is fine behind the plate but useless with the bat. Smith also provides some balance to the lineup that is LHH heavy. Luzardo is great, better than Paxton and Sheehan, but probably behind Glasnow, Yamamoto, Miller, and maybe even Buehler if his recovery goes well. Plus the Dodgers may add Kershaw. Losing Smith creates a way bigger hole than Luzardo would fill.
