Rays have filled their SS position with Caballero for the next year to year plus. C.Williams is the future and he will be called up next year. Rays won't have any interest in Rocchio and they certainly won't consider trading B.Taylor or the pick for him.

GSon

Rocchio is good enough to move Caballero off the spot making the Rays that much better.. Rocchio can also play 2B better than anyone in the Cleveland system not named Gimenez...

Os1995

I don't see Rocchio as better than Caminero, Williams, or Mead. Seems like there Rocchio would be blocked in the Rays system.

So what if he is good enough? Caballero (or Rocchio) isn't pushing B.Lowe off 2B or Paredes of 3B or blocking J.Caminero or C.Mead from 2024 call ups. When Walls returns in May, he's the utility guy. The Rays made their choice for 2024 and it's Caballero at SS. There will be no Rocchio trade to the Rays.

GSon

Then why are the Rays actively looking for an infielder? Block this.. better that.. doesn't make sense for them to be looking.. now, does it?.. There will be a trade.. the question becomes.. with who? This is a suggestion for the Guardians to be the "who"...

Who says they are actively looking for infielders NOW???

Talent.. theeee # 1 reason anyone is acquired for the Guardians.. Cole Wilcox is the gem/prize.. he is by far the best non-performing asset for the Rays not named Shane Baz.. When healthy (and he should become healthy soon) he is a TOR SP with a mid to mid upper 90's FB with run and a wipe out slider. He was back on the mound after TJ surgery in July of 2022.. and struggled for the first two months of 2023.. He'd become the Guardians next best pitching prospect following Espino..and he should be good to go for 2024.. Braden Taylor was who I wanted the Guardians to draft instead of Ralphy.. This is a BPA type move...and all he's done is hit.. hit things hard.. and can play all over the dirt. He'll be ready in late 2025/early 2026.. just about when Hosey is hitting his age 34 season.. Taylor's best spot on the dirt is 3B.. and he hits a ton.. He set Horned Frog records for single season and career numbers of homers.. This is a hitter. that can flat out play.. Comp B pick.. with this draft.. as many slots as can be obtained is a good thing.. Rocchio is a sacrifice.. and I don't want to trade him.. but, assuming the medicals on Wilcox are solid.. this is a deal that fills the talent coffers more than anything. btw.. before you say it.. Taylor not helping this year? is irrelevant.

Oh lord. You're reading from the Rays' 2021 prospect reports in regards to Wilcox.

GSon

No, I'm not....

You do realize Wilcox was left unprotected in the Rule V draft and no one snagged him, right?

See what I am stuck with often? Lol

Lol. GSon and I disagree often. I’ll give him this, he’s very confident in his opinions.

Interesting trade. Not sure if I’m a yes. I love Rocchio. I’m hoping he starts this year over Arias. I also like Brito. Can’t have 3 guys start in 2 positions (see, I know baseball!). If Rocchio is good at SS in ‘24 and Brito has a good AAA season, you would likely keep Rocchio long term and trade Brito. If Rocchio isn’t good, then Gimenez goes to SS in ‘25, Brito to 2B, but now Rocchio has little trade value. Option B is Gimenez starts at SS this year, Freeman gets 2B, keeping it warm for Brito, then trade Rocchio AND Arias. Of course Cleveland probably doesn’t do Option B, but that would be my play. If Arias is deemed the starter (which I am 100% against), then sure, trade Rocchio. Is the return good enough? Probably. But can you stomach an all-star Tampa Bay left side of the infield in Caminero & Rocchio?! If the guys coming back to Cleveland don’t pan out? Heads will roll.
