This trade might make sense if the Rays are thinking of moving on from Siri too, otherwise the Rays are trading one of their best players (on a cheap contract) for a good catching prospect (who might not hit enough in the Show), a defense first 4th outfielder who only makes sense if Siri is traded (Wiemer), a good 2B/3B prospect who might not get playing time with the Rays even with Paredes getting traded (Black), and two pitchers with promise who are far off and not sure things. It’s not exactly a bad trade but it’s hard for me to see the Rays making this trade unless they really really want to open a path to playing time for Mead and JC, and I can’t see that. Paredes is a 4Win player and his trade wouldn’t free up much salary. Just isn’t the right trade for the Rays.

Yea this trade was a bit of a stretch trying to get all sides to work, to be honest I'm not a big Weimer backer but I doubted they would part with Frelick, I would picture Weimer going back to AAA to try to figure it out. Personally I kind of want to trade high on Peredes cause I'm not sure he repeats at the same level this year, probably could get a better return with just trading him in a 2 team trade though, the steal of the trade for me is Black, I'd move him to LF as the eventual Arozarena replacement, he reminds me a bit of Carl Crawford, a hitting, on base over power hitter with speed I could see him as difference maker at the top of the order.

I’m higher on Paredes than you. He has basically performed at a 4 win level for 2 years now (if you extend his 22 performance by the additional innings and ABs he would have had if he hadn’t started in the minors). I don’t mind trading him for the right return because of all the talent the Rays have at 3B, but a collection of secondary role players doesn’t work for me. Quero is the perfect Rays catching prospect, but he’s also not Rutschman. Wiemer and Black could be great fits for the Rays, but they don’t fill obvious needs either (at least not with the Rays current roster). Frelick makes a lot more sense than either. At the end of the day this trade might be great if the Rays are planning wholesale changes at the Deadline and next year.

Ohh you know Stu is planning to sell a lot either at the trade deadline or next offseason, he's already claiming that will happen if they don't "compete". I think the problem with Paredes is cause of the metrics other teams might not view him as a 4 win player, I hope he puts up big numbers this year so that might help show he's for real and make more believers and drive up the price. See I think that's the type of player the Rays always target, the 2nd tier role player type so they don't have to pay them as much, with the Wander thing this gives them the perfect out to not get high end, expensive talent.
