4Day before the season starts shocker
Why would the Rays do this though? Lee doesn’t have the defense to be a Rays’ SS and he’s not ready for the Majors anyway. Rays could trade Fairbanks but I doubt they do before the Deadline.
I like Lee for his power potential and impressive contact skills, being a switch hitter, and I think he’d make a nice utility player, defensively strong enough to handle 2B 3B SS. I think his bat plays at the major league level. Wish he was in the Red Sox system.
I agree with most of that. His bat should be good enough to be an everyday player at the next level. I just think he would be a 2B for the Rays, not a SS. Rays demand elite fielding at SS and Lee isn’t an elite fielder. I’d love him to be in the Rays system though. This trade could definitely happen at the deadline, but it would spell doom for guys like Mead who are already struggling to find a defensive spot with the Rays.
