Braves touch base with Ron Washington to upgrade their backup for Arcia. Rengifo can play every day for the Braves. Rada is a legit prospect who is barely 18 so it may be a couple years before he makes the majors. In exchange, the Braves clear a bit of their AAA pitcher logjam to help Waldrep advance faster. Elder slots in as a 4/5 and Hernandez would be right behind him on their depth chart. Conley doesn't really have a path to the majors in ATL but Washington may be able to work his magic on him.

This is an interesting swap. I much prefer what the Braves have so I wouldn't be into this trade. They have both Ian Anderson and Huascar Ynoa who will be rehab'ing for the next few months. Elder and AJ Smith-Shawver are probably the first to be called up if one of their starting pitcher is hurt. I'd rather hold on to Elder. His trade value could go up if he gets quality starts and throw both his sinker and slider for strikes again. I don't believe there's a logjam at AAA. If there was, it won't diminish Waldrep's development. Because of his ranking on the prospects lists, I think he's going to get his shots and it'll be other starters that are on the back end. I don't know much about the Angels farm system but MLB.com has 4 out of their 11 top prospects as SS. Cal Conley's in the minors, looks like AA to start the 2024 season. I'm not confident that Ron Washington, new manager of the struggling Angels is going to be working with a prospect like Conley as he did with the Braves infielders. Cool idea.

If I’m going to trade Elder, I want a legit DH hitting prospect in the Top 100 or a prospect package that includes a Comp A pick. If it’s a major league level player, I want them to be substantially better than Arcia (that would be probably a package of Elder+). Rengifo is a solid player, but his glove isn’t elite at SS and bat is above average. It makes no sense trading for him because we just traded away a guy like him in Vaughn Grissom. I don’t think the Angels are a good fit for a trade partner unless you want to burn your entire farm for Elder.

I can be down with this. I like Michael Busch with the Cubbies if it's to be a trade for a good hitting prospect. Nine months ago, Bryce Elder's value on this site was about twice as high as it is now. I'd like to see a bit more of Elder in the Majors before deciding on a fair trade value.

The Cubs just traded for Michael Busch. I don’t think they’re giving up on him so soon. The better target is Owen Caissie. He’s not great defensively, but his power is his calling card. Would be the best Braves hitting prospect if he was in the system. Elder has major league starts, but he’s in the minors because of the pitching depth. He would slot into the backend of the Cubs rotation and I think the Cubs could turn him into Kyle Hendricks 2.0
