3Cubs save $4 mil. Take a flyer on Bart.
Branden, I hear ya, but they have Amaya. They had Alfaro, who looked good in spring, but let him go. They have Aliendo. Sometimes, I wonder why the Cubs bother with a farm system. They didn't really give Velazquez or Mervis a chance last year. Same for Canario, who just got shipped out to AAA. They signed Mancini, who was washed up with the Astros, to a 2 year/$15 million dollar contract. Paying Bote 5.5 to sit on the bench in the minors. Bring in Cooper, age 32. Spend $9 on Neris, who is 35 years old with a declining 93 mph fastball. Paying $11 to Smyly, who is worthless, to relieve. Why not give Brown, Wesneski, Thompson and others a chance? For all the dead money on their books this year, they could have signed Montgomery. Yet, no one, except a few fans like me, calls this FO and Rickety Ricketts for their stupidity.
Not at the cost of their starting catcher though.
