I don't like saying "No" on multiple proposals without offering up my own version for discussion/condemnation. Cantillo has the Stuff/iffy-Command profile that the A's have been targeting in trade. He's on the 40 man, which means this deal is neutral in that regard. And perhaps most importantly, he's not a factor in Cleveland's current quest to upgrade their rotation because he's on the shelf due to a hamstring injury. He's supposed to be back sometime in June and while I've often said No to deals involving injured players... a hamstring is a relatively minor injury that I'm willing to gamble on. Frias is a Power over Hit 3B with potential Plus defense and that is absolutely a profile the A's love. He's a switch-hitter (because every infielder in Cleveland's system is a switch-hitter) but the rest of the package fits what they like to see. Torres has a big arm and is worth a gamble at the price point. All three prospects are in the upper minors this season, plus Torres and Frias are far enough down the Guardians depth chart that they were passed over last winter when it came time for the team to protect players for the Rule 5 draft.

The info I have when it comes to Cantillo... They had him ranked directly behind Allen in the rankings and possibly even above Allen as a prospect. He does fit what the A's would like, but it's just a question mark of the essential "BTV" value they have him at... Frias and Torres are available in a deal... I wouldn't do the deal, but I can see why Cleveland has to think on it...

Cleveland is not giving up Cantillo for Blackburn.

Cleveland has to give up someone (or something) of value if they want to add a big league pitcher to their rotation. Cantillo didn't exactly set the world on fire in AAA last year and like I said, he's not even pitching right now.

He's due back soon and was the next man in line. Nobody gives up a AAA pitching prospect with Cantillo's ceiling for Blackburn. Cantillo is likely a better ML SP than Allen. Certainly has better stuff and that's why you're trying to get him. Cleveland is smarter than that and they have plenty of options before giving up that kind of value for a short term answer like Blackburn who could turn back into a pumpkin anytime.
