I didn't think Eflin was getting traded this year. Mp has said he was, and it's looking like he's right. Where there's smoke, there's fire, and theres a lot of talk about Eflin to the Braves. This would be a great swap for all teams involved. The Rays get cheaper, but don't get any worse. They have the MLB depth and prospect depth to absorb the loss of the MLB and minor league talent. The White Sox trade an excellent pitcher for a ton of future talent. The Braves get a much needed SP.

For the record, I think Eflin getting traded is a strong possibility if the Rays are a 50-50 or worse bet to make the playoffs at the Deadline (like they are now) and the Rays don’t suffer significant SP injuries between now and then. If the Rays go on a real run and look like legit WS contenders, then maybe not. Getting, Baz, Springs, and Rasmussen back from the 60 day IL will give the Rays an 8-9 man rotation at the Deadline, assuming no injuries. Just to maintain 40 man balance someone will need to go. This trade is intriguing because Crochet is cheap (salary) and pitching well, and could be seen as the Rays TOR of 2025-26. He would likely be shut down in 24 though because of his limited pitching the past 3 years and keeping him through 2026 might mean the Rays get nothing in return when he becomes a free agent (though a pick would seem likely). It’s an intriguing idea, but personally, I’d rather have Waldrep (and keep the others from this trade) than go with Crochet.

Look at Crochet's 2024 vs McClanahan's 2022 when he started the All-Star game and got Cy Young votes. Crochet is a bona fide ace. This year and 2 more of a CY contender. I'd rather have Crochet. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/shane-mcclanahan-663556?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/garrett-crochet-676979?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb

I hear ya, but as I've said before, the Rays would probably shut Crochet down by August given his lack of IP over the past 4 years. Even setting that aside, Crochet is a risky bet given his Ace status is based on only 1/3 season. He's been a reliever prior to this year, albeit a very good reliever. Waldrep may not have the ceiling of Crochet (certainly not over the next few years), but he profiles as a good pitching prospect and he comes with up to 6.5 years of control.
