5There have been rumors the past couple of years that the Cubs/Hoyer attempted to acquire Alvarez from the Mets but ultimately failed. The Cubs need help at catcher as soon as possible. Maybe newish Mets Prez David Stearns would be willing to cash in that chip for two top 100 prospects that are just a year or so away?
Gaining Alvarez does not change the Cubs season but losing Caissie and Ballesteros affects their future negatively. Agreed Cubs need C. But it’s a defensive position. Amaya can’t block balls in dirt or throw. Rushing or Melendez make better trade targets, plus they hit from left side. Maybe Teel if they could get him. The need for an offensive oriented catcher would be lessened if Cubs had better hitters in OF, DH and on the corners (like Caissie and Ballesteros). My way of saying no to this deal.
I think ownership is opposed to trading away high value prospects
Possible but I’ve never gotten the impression that the Ricketts get involved in player personnel other than occasionally crying about being broke. I think it’s Jed that is the cautious one.
I was referring to Mets ownership and Francisco Alvarez
