4Gives the Mets more flexibility to try to sign Soto without spending on Alonso too. Trading Naylor gives Cleveland 12 million in more spending to sign possibly Boyd/Carlos Santana (similar numbers to Naylor). Mets give up 3 top 30 prospects but no top 100 overall.
Cleveland is looking to win in 25... They need hitting help and trading Naylor and getting prospects that aren't MLB ready back makes no sense... They would have to trade prospects to replace Naylor on paper with this deal...
I do agree with you to a point. They clear Naylor 12 million and use that 12 in FA for sign 2. Seems like a Cleveland thing to do.
One problem with this notion, who are they signing? There are two guys Cleveland would be interested in that make sense and that's Santander and Adames... Neither of those guys are likely to sign in Cleveland cause Cleveland will be outbid. Adding either of those guys behind Naylor gives them a legit lineup...
