2Well, if the Angels want out from under Trout's contract, this would do it. Short term $80M hit for '25 and then they can start over. Certainly worth thinking about this one.
Absolutely nonsense. Even if they wanted out from under Trout's contract (they don't), they're not going to trade almost all of their limited assets to do it. They'd still have Rendon, Stephenson, Soler, Castellanos and Walker on the books in 26 under this scenario, so they wouldn't even get to start over. This is pure Phillies fan fiction: "We'll buy low on Trout if you throw in basically all of your assets. In exchange, we will gladly dump all of our bad contracts on you". Even if the Angels wanted to move Trout (again, they don't) someone is going to offer them a better deal than a pure bad contract swap. Hell, Trout's contract was above water a year ago, and he's a 5-6 WAR player on a pro-rata basis. You think the Cubs, Dodgers, Yankees, etc. wouldn't gladly compete with this?
