13IF Cleveland still likes Allen, they wouldn't part with him for a rental...
They don’t.
You don't know that one... none of us do... Collecting young SPs is an extremely smart move
I know everything.
Seriously though… For someone who takes the time to comment on almost every Cleveland trade proposal on here your takes are… suspect
Cleveland is a weird franchise to follow... The FO is notorious for not letting out any info... Even scouts from the organization don't even know everything going on so nothing gets leaked at all... They never have the same rankings as any national media... Heck even the Guardians group has guys ranked top 30 that no publication recognizes and the publications put players up there that we don't recognize and we watch their minor leagues... That being stated, Allen still has options and can be a big league SP, but he was called up before he was finished developing in the minors. He's a crafty lefty that needs to develop his last pitch. He will likely be working on it this offseason and at AAA this year.
Ps. Honestly I can name you the 40 man roster and their top prospects off the top of my head... I can say what Cleveland commonly does in trades and whatnot, but Antonetti isn't predictable... He makes moves out of LF every single year and honestly, he's won more than lost in his moves, so he gets the benefit of the doubt. He doesn't make a move unless he gets his price and with him being so tight lipped, it's impossible to know his price on anything...
Just because you know the 40 man doesn’t mean your value assessment is good. Brennan hasn’t been able to make the necessary adjustments at the plate (swings at everything resulting in weak contact and can’t hit the high fastball to save his life) and Allen has to be perfect to be effective. Both of their values are too high on this site. If you don’t think the Cleveland FO would take this trade and run you’re high. STL wouldn’t take this deal anyway…
Fedde is a rental with one legit MLB season... Cleveland rarely ever trades for rentals... Tell me when they have? When they did, they didnt trade anyone of significants... Plus they already added an MLB arm with control then added multiple SPs that are MLB ready and they have a couple who are near MLB ready including a kid named Peterson, who the national media is ignorant about but was literally one of the top SPs in all of the minors in almost every single category...
I think your view is too narrow. Just because Cleveland typically operates a certain way doesn’t mean they are unwilling to explore other avenues to improve. Cleveland is not fundamentally opposed to acquiring short-term help. Examples: Carlos Santana, Josh Belle, Shane Bieber, and Mike Zunino as free agents, or expiring-contract trades like Yasiel Puig and Andrew Miller. The real question is how Cleveland assigns value to short-term help. Everything they do is value-based. Each deal is weighed on its own merits, and it’s too simplistic to say, ‘They don’t normally do this, so they won’t now.’ Will Brennan is beyond expendable with this team’s current roster construction, and as you noted, they have a wealth of young pitching talent which makes loosing Allen tolerable. What they lack is healthy proven MLB veteran presence in the rotation, which Fedde provides. His 2024 season (3.34 ERA, 154 strikeouts in 176.2 innings) at his current salary fits the profile of the short-term add Cleveland often seeks when the value aligns. Additionally, Cleveland could always flip Fedde at the trade deadline if the team’s trajectory changes, ensuring they maximize his value whether they compete or pivot.
Honestly, your last statement has some merit, but at the same time, Cleveland has Bibee, Williams, Lively, TMac and Ortiz as their starting 5 at the moment with Bieber coming sometime in the second half... Then they have Allen, Cantillo, Nikhazy, Cecconi while Avila will be a starter in spring as well (but I expect him to be in the bullpen) Then they will have guys like Webb, Davenport, Dion, Peterson who aren't far away... Now one thing you don't know about Allen is the fact he was called up before they finished with his development in the minors. That's not an opinion but a fact... They now have the time to finish that since the pressure is off of him... TMac and Bieber may not be long term, so it be odd to move a long term piece right now for a rental... Brennan has respectable numbers vs RHP and usually plays a solid RF and can play CF, LF... Now I am not saying he isn't expendable, but with the other OFs being Noel and Thomas, who are not good defenders... Thomas has been a platoon until recent, so can he be a true everyday guy? Noel has shown holes in his swing... Plus they may have Freeman and Martinez out there in spring... They don't have the OF set... Trading away Brennan with their upper minors postion players being thin isn't a good idea plus Brennan also still has options... Halpin I have no faith in... I don't think moving Allen or Brennan for a rental is a smart move in the short or long term...
I think you over value what Allen and Brennan mean to this team. Allen has had something like 60 appearances between AAA and MLB and will turn 27 next season. His ceiling is low. Also, counting on Tmac to be healthy and no regression from Lively is asking a lot. Brennan is redundant plus DeLuater is knocking on the door; and even they don’t feel like he is ready for ‘25, Brennan is not going to open the season as their RF vs RHP. They would sign Winker before handing it back over to Brennan. Brennan probably has very little trade value to begin with. Fedde is the type of player who could be the difference in winning or loosing the division. Allen and Brennan are not.
Cleveland isn't going to sign Winker over Brennan especially since he's not enough of an upgrade to merit the likely 7 million or so to get him, plsu Brennan got away from what made him good in the minors, so i want to see him for another season to see if he can get back to who he was... in the same notion as you stating Lively could regress, so could Fedde since he's had one legit season... You cannot deny that's a possibility as well... Allen is better than you are giving him credit for, but we will know that in a couple seasons who is right about that one... Allen has also been very durable, so that's huge when he still has options... I just can't see Cleveland moving both for a rental that doesn't have a track record...
