4STL trying to clear payroll. Yoshida is making more than Contreras over the next 3 years.

Salary is showing; Yoshidas 3/$54 Contreras 3/$59.5. Yoshida 18/18/18 Contreras 18/18/18.5 with a 4th yr team option or a $5m buyout. So the Cardinals save $5.5m plus get a SP prospect (that Bloom knows very well), Red Sox take on an additional $5.5m and get a pick.
STL, or any team looking to clear payroll, is going to try and clear a lot more than $5M.
