5I like part of this trade for the Rays. It’s pretty close. Bliss is the problem. I can’t see the Rays having much desire/need for him.
Would you take Tai Peete instead of Bliss. I don't think anyone would take Bliss while he's injured. What about Arroyo and Ford instead of the comp pick, Ford and Bliss?
Rays were said to really like Peete on draft day, but since draft day they have added A.Santana and G.Barrios, both of whom have similar skill sets to Peete. If C.Williams works out for the Rays, all 3 of these guys would probably be ticketed for utility duties, so it’s hard to envision the Rays wanting Peete now…, unless of course the Rays have soured on Williams. My preference would be Ford, Sloan and the pick, but Ford and either Celesten, Montes or Arroyo might work too. That said, the Rays generally prefer to receive more players in return than the number of guys they trade.
Personally I'd rather take Ford and Bliss out of the deal, Ford looks more likely to head to LF with an offensive down year in 2024 and a slow start to 2025, I loved Bliss a couple of years ago but now he'd be pretty far down the depth chart.
I get that. Reports haven’t been glowing on Ford and I’m not too high on him personally. Still, it was reported that the Rays liked him so that’s what I’m going off of. If he’s moved to LF though, then hell no. Zero interest in giving up a premium price for a failed catcher and average (at best) outfield bat.
