7Morel is the only RHB the Rays have in the outfield right now, but he is being misused horribly because he has reverse splits. In his 4 years in the Show, he has hit RHP better than LHP in 3 of the 4 years. He is hitting RHP well this year (123 wRC+) but is only playing now against LHP (28 wRC+). He needs a change of scenery and the Royals desperately need more offense. Morel’s 123 wRC+ against RHP would be a huge addition to the Royals lineup and all it would cost is their 3rd catching prospect and a reliever prospect who can’t find his way into the Show. Seems like a good trade all around to me.
I would feel bad stealing from the Royals like that lol
I'm not sure it's stealing though. Admittedly, I'm not high on Morel and I really like Ramirez, but if you look at Morel's stats, it's kind of weird how well he has hit RHP. He has hit over 100 wRC+ against RHP (as a RHB by the way) in 3 of his 4 years in the majors, and only just missed doing so last year (89 wRC+) in what was an awful year for him overall. Why in the hell the Rays are only playing him against LHP is totally beyond me.
Honestly I think it's got to be something personal cause I've never seen TB go from shoving a player down everyone's thoat to almost disappearing, the FO just can't admit it's a horrible design of a roster, at this point they have to let him start to see if he can rebuild or if it's DFA time, to me regardless of the pitcher it needs to be Morel, Simpson, and J Lowe starting, Misner looks like he needs a mental break, I like Caballero but if he's your starting RF then your team is probably F*****, every year I say its a bad configured roster, I wish this deadline instead of just trading off mlb pieces they used the prospect depth to get better players to mix in
I agree. I haven’t understood the Rays’ big picture in a long time. Their moves have been illogical and the end result will be the Rays being in the bottom third of baseball this year, and with few tradeable assets having all that much trade value. It will be a bleak Deadline this year.
I was thinking with Rasmussen and Diaz signing extensions I don't see them moving them so that leaves Litell, Fairbanks, and maybe B Lowe? Unless they get creative the deadline will be depressing, and with so many prospects struggling it's going to be a rough year that needs to lead to bigger questions like what is the direction of the team, why is there so many injuries every year, and why do they struggle so bad at developing any prospects.
Rays need to face facts and come to terms with the fact that they aren’t a playoff team this year and won’t be one next year. They need to make the hard decisions and trade anyone who won’t be a part of the next run (which might not start until 2028 because of a potential 2027 lockout).
