6If the Red Sox are in at the deadline… maybe, (it would depend on how Fedde had been pitching leading up to the deadline) but, I would be hoping for more than Fedde. As a today trade, I’d pass. Luis Perales is expected to miss at least the first half of the season recovering from Tommy John surgery, so…not sure how the Cardinals FO would look at him though Bloom would be very familiar with him.
Hmmmm, straight up for Crooks? Maybe a little more...maybe Dalvinson Reyes. I think Perales is going down the same rabbit hole with Tink Hence. I think both will turn out to be relievers. Having both those guys in the BP would be fine, but not worth shipping Crooks off for. He's the best defensive catcher they have in the system, right now and his career OPS is .827 in MiLB.
I think the Red Sox would balk at Reyes, he’s so young and really just got to the states. I think a bubble rule 5 candidate would be more in play as a second piece someone like Yordanny Monegro.
For the Red Sox, their rotation is a mess today. 1B is a desperate need today. They have been trying to find a catcher since Vasquez was good. For the Cardinals, they can wait for Perales. The whole premise of them trading players is that the future is ahead- not now.
I wouldn’t be opposed to the Red Sox making this trade now, but I’d pass.
Also, Perales will have only 1 more option year remaining after this season. I’d trade him straight up for Jimmy Crooks if the Cardinals were interested.
