I don't see the point of this trade for the Rays. McLain isn't having a good season, but maybe that's just because he missed all of last year. The bigger problem for this trade is that HSK is expected back for the Rays in 2-3 weeks, so there's really no reason to add McLain. HSK (SS) and B.Lowe (2B) are the two highest paid Rays, so where would McLain play? Swapping Boyle for Petty might make sense I guess, but I think the Rays really like Boyle and there's no denying he's having a pretty good season for them (mostly in AAA but still).
