Cronenworth and Story money is roughly the same left, but by including these players Boston gets SD #3 and #4 prospects instead of Salas and DeVries.

A losing record, leading MLB in strikeouts with RISP, and questionable defense all feel like reasons to step somewhere. Duran is a loss, but Anthony is ready. Mayer is a better defender than Story, and Trevor created a low bar for offense. And Cronenworth will actually play anywhere the Sox need, unlike a certain DH I can name.
💁🏼♀️ You can like it or not but this is the 2025/2026 Red Sox; Duran will transition into a 1B/OF type maybe during the season but definitely this coming off season and (with everyone healthy) the field will line up as; (starter/depth/depth), C - Navarez/Wong, 1B - Casas/Campbell/Duran, 2B - Story/Campbell/Mayer, 3B - Bregman/Mayer/Campbell, SS - Mayer/Story/Rafaela, LF - Anthony/Duran, CF - Duran/Rafaela, RF - Abreu/Duran, DH - Devers. With a healthy Yoshida for the last bench spot. Or, a competition between Hamilton & Gonzalez for the last bench spot (with both having a remaining option). And Yoshida is traded. If Casas is slow to come back Campbell & Duran could both cover 1B until he returns and both Hamilton & Gonzalez make the team until he returns as well.
💁🏼♀️ It’s going to be another try to thread the needle deadline the only difference being; Bello, Abreu, Rafaela, Mayer, Campbell & Anthony will all be up and joining Devers & Duran. Exciting stuff, we’ve been waiting a while. It’s to bad about Casas 🤕 That’s 6 home grown position players out of 9 and when Casas returns make it 7 joining Abreu (trade) plus Bregman & Story (free agent signings).

I think this type of deal structure makes the most sense for both teams in this scenario.
