3I do not see the logic in trading for Nootbar. He is a 115 wRC+ bat who typically produces 1.5-3 fWAR. That’s good, don’t get me wrong. But $40MM trade value for 2.5 arb eligible seasons of that? Are you kidding me? The Rays’ Misner, Mangum and Lowe could all put up similar numbers this year. DeLuca and Palacios are both expected back in June and they will only add to the strength of the Rays’ outfield. Sorry, but the Rays pass on this trade.
If the Rays don't need outfielders, then they don't need outfielders, but this package from the Rays is not sufficient. I like Suarez alot, but the package around him would need to be better.
Don’t get me wrong, if Nootbaar produced 3 fWAR mostly with the bat, i think the Rays would be much more interested. Rays have plenty of defensive excellent outfielders with good not great bats though (which is how I see Nootbaar).
