ncampbell315 came up with some ideas to get Mason Miller to the Cubs but none of them quite fit the Athletics' situation. I really liked the idea of bringing Palencia back to the A's organization and adding Jaxon Wiggins to the farm system but Ballesteros is ready to the Show now and the A's seem happy with the improvement Shea Langeliers has shown in 2025. Enter the Rays, who always seem to be looking for their next starting Catcher. Montgomery helps the A's bullpen immediately by allowing me to release T.J. McFarland. (I'll kick in enough to cash to cover all but the league minimum if either team wants him.) Wiggins and Hopkins fit the A's recent trend of adding bigger framed, big fastball pitchers. Both are pitching in AA and neither needs to be added to the 40 man until after the 2026 season.

Unless reports of Ballesteros' catching ability are totally inaccurate, he's not the defensive stud catcher the Rays are looking for. Ballesteros is all offense and no defense. Rays say no.

I wouldn't say it's no defense... but it is a bat first profile.
